The cracks are showing again in the stablecoin world. Circle, the company behind USDC, is now considering reversible transactions. Their president, Heath Tarbert, claims it would allow refunds for fraud cases and help the industry win mainstream trust. But let’s call it what it is. Circle was never born from Bitcoin’s ethos. Its leadership came from the same financial system that rejected them years ago. Reversible transactions strike at the heart of immutability, the very thing that makes Bitcoin valuable. We’ve seen these actors before and their true colors are showing again.

Meanwhile, real progress happened somewhere completely different. Macadamia, a wallet built on the Cashew protocol, rolled out eCash payments directly inside Apple’s iMessage. You can literally text someone Bitcoin, and they can redeem it with a simple wallet download. No gas fees, no bridging, no compatibility headaches. It just works. That’s the kind of user experience that actually brings people in. Most folks won’t ever care about block heights or hash rates, but they know how to send a text. Matching Bitcoin’s UX to that baseline is how you win adoption.

Contrast that with what’s happening in corporate treasuries. Australian fitness firm Fitell and several other companies dove headfirst into Solana and got punished for it. Their share prices cratered, wiping out whatever hope their balance sheet gimmicks were meant to inspire. Analysts already had them pegged as overvalued and underperforming. Now, after announcing big Solana buys, they look like zombies grasping at the crypto fad as a last gasp before liquidation. Some of these companies holding Bitcoin may at least leave real value behind for acquirers, but the rest will simply vanish. It’s collapse and consolidation season, and desperation makes for ugly moves.

Then there’s the new crop of “yield” protocols. BOS rolled out Grail Pro, and Botanix Labs hyped a 34% APR product. Both lean on the same tired pitch: put your Bitcoin to work and watch the magic happen. The problem is that no one can clearly explain where the yield comes from. If you can’t answer that, you are the yield. These schemes dress themselves in technical jargon but underneath it’s just another way to part people from their coins. We’ve already seen enough BlockFis and Celsiuses to know how this movie ends.

The future worth paying attention to is Lightning and value-for-value. Instant settlement, split payments, and streaming sats open new models for work, media, and collaboration. It’s a parallel economy already running on top of Bitcoin. Podcasting, sponsorships, and even simple commerce change when value flows instantly and directly. It’s not perfect, and adoption is slow, but the rails are here. The work now is crafting user experiences that make it obvious. Whether it’s Macadamia in iMessage or a Lightning-enabled audiobook sale, the real action happens where friction disappears. That’s the theme today: user experience wins.
